Incredible Progress: Philip's Healing Journey

 We’re honored to share another meaningful update from Dr. Gonzalez’s recent in-office work with Philip, a young man whose story continues to inspire everyone he meets.

Before his injury, Philip lived a full and active life. He grew up surfing the Florida coastline, joined the National Guard as soon as he was old enough, and married his high-school sweetheart—just one week after the tragic pool-diving accident that changed everything.

 One year ago, Philip damaged his C3/C4 vertebrae after diving into a shallow pool, immediately becoming a quadriplegic. Instead of losing hope, he committed himself wholeheartedly to his recovery. For a full year, he devoted five hours every day to physical therapy, rebuilding strength and regaining significant dexterity in his arms and legs.

When he came to Agoura Hills for a week of intensive neurological rehabilitation with Dr. George Gonzalez and Dr. Terry Schroeder, Dr. Gonzalez noticed a key neurological pattern during his assessment:

Philip’s C5 deltoid was strong when his head remained neutral, but the moment he rotated his head or shrugged his shoulders, the deltoid instantly weakened.

This indicated that his nervous system couldn’t manage multiple stress inputs—head movement and shoulder engagement—without interrupting communication to the muscle.
