Wired for the Summer Weather: 3 Ways To Prepare Your Nervous System

May 23, 2025

As the days grow longer and temperatures rise, your nervous system is already adapting—even before you realize it. From light levels to barometric pressure, your body is constantly decoding environmental signals to keep you in balance.

With the knowledge we have in Quantum Neurology, we know how precise and intelligent the nervous system truly is. Seasonal shifts can challenge your system’s ability to regulate everything from temperature perception to sleep cycles and joint stability.

This is the perfect time to tune in to your body’s subtle responses.

Are you waking more easily?
Feeling restless at night?
Experiencing changes in mood, circulation, or muscle tone?

These signs aren’t random—they’re neurological feedback, and we’re here to help you decode them.

Before diving into hiking, sports, or beach workouts, remember this: movement is only as safe as your nervous system is stable.

Proper function must come before jumping right in to summer activities. A few powerful steps to get you (or your patients) neurologically ready:

🔹 Strengthen balance with cranial nerve and vestibular protocols:
Why it matters - Your inner ear and cranial nerves help you stay upright and coordinated—especially during quick turns, unexpected terrain, or recreational sports.

Try this at home - Practice “Gaze Stabilization”

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart.

  • Hold your thumb out in front of your face at eye level.

  • Keep your eyes locked on your thumb as you slowly turn your head left and right (like shaking “no”).

  • Activate accommodation by looking at your thumb, and looking at a fixed point in the distance - without moving your head. Repeat 5x before moving on.
  • Do for 30 seconds, 2x per day.

🔹 Reinforce core activation (QN Intermediate Motor Performance material!):
Why it matters - Your core isn’t just about abs—it’s your neurological center for movement stability, spinal alignment, and injury prevention. Activating it properly can improve every movement you make.

Try this at home - Lie on your back with knees bent and feet flat. Place your hands on your lower abdomen. Take a deep breath in, then gently draw your belly button toward your spine as you exhale, without moving your ribs or pelvis.

  • Hold for 5 seconds.

  • Repeat 10 times.

🔹 Don’t forget sensory integration – heat, texture, terrain all affect perception!:
Why it matters - Your nervous system must accurately process heat, pressure, texture, and terrain in real time. When it doesn’t, missteps and injuries can occur.

Try this at home - Do a “Barefoot Terrain Walk” for 3–5 minutes a day. Walk barefoot on different safe surfaces (grass, sand, gravel, towel, hardwood). Let your feet feel the texture, temperature, and pressure changes.

  • Close your eyes briefly to engage proprioception.

  • Be sure to stay near something stable to hold if needed!

💡 This trains your sensory nerves to recognize and respond to changing inputs—just like your body needs to do during hikes, beach walks, or park playtime.

Summer invites us to move more, play harder, and get outside—but if we skip the prep, we risk entering this high-energy season with collapsed or unrecognized motor patterns.

We encourage you to move smarter this summer. Neurologically tuned movement is not only safer—it’s more joyful and effective.

Let this season be a reminder to assess your baseline (& your patients) to strengthen the foundation. Stay connected to your nervous system and give it the support it needs to thrive.
